Same-Day Sick Visits in Fairfax, VA: When Should You Schedule an Appointment With a Primary Care Doctor?

The scratchy throat you woke up with on Sunday has turned into a cough by Tuesday morning, and you have a client meeting on Thursday and two kids to pick up at 3. You’d rather not lose an afternoon in a waiting room, so you’re looking at same-day sick visits in Fairfax, VA before you call in. Here’s how our treatment for fever, cough, and sore throat works at Annandale Primary Care.

Will Same-Day Sick Visits in Fairfax, VA Cover a Cough or Sore Throat?

Often, yes. Our home page notes that we often have same-day appointments available, and our infection page covers colds and sinus infections, bronchitis and pneumonia, along with stomach bugs from contaminated food or water. In fact, our infection page notes that colds are by far the most common cause of upper respiratory infections.

What Should I Tell the Office When I Call About a Sick Visit?

When you call, tell the front desk when the symptoms started, whether you’ve had a fever, and whether anyone at home has the same thing. In the event your stomach is the problem, mention any vomiting, so the office can book you for stomach pain and nausea care. The front desk opens at 8 a.m. Monday through Wednesday and at 7:30 a.m. Thursday and Friday, at both our Fairfax and Annandale offices.

When Should a Sick Visit Turn Into an Emergency Room Trip?

Our heart disease page lists chest pain and shortness of breath among its warning signs. In the event you have either one, or you feel faint, call 911 rather than the office. Otherwise, you’ll see Dr. Connie Le or a member of her team, such as Dr. Julie Whitehouse, who is boarded in emergency medicine and has practiced for more than 30 years. Then, your provider will listen to your lungs and check your throat, and the two of you will decide whether you need a test, a prescription or rest.
